I had this post finished last night and lost it when I accidentally hit back. Hopefully this works out better.
This is an important topic that I have had to cover multiple times for newer members who are looking for advice on how to improving their attacks. Now, these steps are not easy and the only way to get better at them is to practice using them. Also, not all of the steps apply to every attack either but in general, the steps will help you have the best chance at 3 stars.
Step 1 - Lure the clan castle troops
This step is extremely important for every type of attack except for mass dragons. With dragons, it is very hard to do and they really can take care of themselves. It is most important with troops that target defenses like hogs, giants, golems or balloons. They will not defend themselves like other troops. They will just keep running to defenses and eventually just get killed. It may take more than one to get them all out!
There are tons of different ways to lure. If their base design sucks and their clan castle is near the outside, just use a barbarian or an archer or two to draw them out. If they have a deeper clan castle you may need to use a giant, hog rider or a balloon.
Step 2 - Anchor and CC kill
This is a very simple step. You drop a troop in a corner. This is usually an archer or a barbarian. This is to move the troops where you want them to be so you can kill them. When they get there kill them. There are many was to do this. You can drop a giant and kill them with wizards or archers. At lower levels you can hit them with a lightning spell. With GoWiPe or GoWiWi bring them over to where you want your attack to come from. Drop a golem to get their attention and then have the witches or wizards kill them.
Step 3 - Funneling
This step is probably skipped more than any other step, including luring. Funneling helps direct your attack troops where you want them to go. This clears out distracting buildings that will drive your troops away from the town hall. If you don't do this your attack troops will likely go around the outside of the base. This is the same for dragons, gowipe, or lots of other attacks. See videos below

This will help you set the table for your kill troops.
Step 5 - Attack (sub attack - Queen kill squad)
This part varies depending on what stage you are at and what the base you are attacking is. I must say, I am really not very good at this part yet. If you are attacking a th level 9 or higher, your attack is greatly benefited if you kill the queen before dropping your main attack. This is not something I am good at yet but I will be working on it as I get into more advance attacks.

After that is done, you drop your main attack where your funnel was done. This will give you the best shot to 3 star a base.
